Is Belgium the right registration?

Belgian registration is no longer a universal route for foreign owners. A genuine Belgian nationality, residence or qualifying company connection must be established.

The page therefore starts with eligibility. Historic marketing about an unrestricted Belgian flag should not be relied on for a new application.

Good fit

Belgian citizens, qualifying residents or companies who want their pleasure craft registered through the Belgian system.

You have no genuine Belgian eligibility connection or need a registration open to all nationalities.

The packages apply to standard qualifying files. Complex ownership, home-built vessels, missing conformity evidence, translations outside the standard scope or technical work are reviewed before a final quote.

Who can apply

Owner and vessel eligibility.

  • The owner must meet the current Belgian nationality, residence or qualifying-company rules.
  • The applicant's identity, address and ownership share are checked.
  • Imported, home-built and older boats may need additional construction, VAT or technical evidence.

Private and commercial use

The standard service is positioned for pleasure craft.

Commercial operation requires a separate Belgian and local operating assessment.

Navigation limits, safety equipment and insurance follow the vessel, design category and area of operation—not merely the registration certificate.

Prepare the file

Documents normally requested.

The final checklist depends on the owner, vessel history and intended operation. Never legalise or translate documents until we confirm the format.

01Proof of nationality or residence
02Passport or national identity card
03Bill of sale or other ownership evidence
04Deletion evidence from the former register
05Declaration of conformity where applicable
06Photographs of vessel, HIN, CE plate and engine serial number

How long is it valid?

The standard registration is issued for five years.

Is a survey always required?

Not in every standard pleasure-craft file, but technical evidence can be requested for the specific vessel.
